Ches is applying for a job at a university. If, by some long shot (which I'm hoping isn't that long of a shot after all), he gets the job, he will have to shave his goatee. Now, I love his goatee. I know not everyone is a facial hair kind of person, but I love goatees in general. I especially love it on Ches. When I met Ches, he was completely clean-shaven (those were the rules at Ricks College), and so I never knew him with facial hair while we dated or when we were first married. As soon as he was done with Ricks, however, I persuaded him to grow a goatee. It really didn't take much persuasion. He apparantly had one before his mission for a little while, and while on break from Ricks he would grow one. He loves it as much as I do.
Anyrate, I hope he gets this job (it would be so great!! Really!), but I would have to get used to a clean-shaven Ches again. Here is Ches when we got married:
And here is Ches with a goatee (this picture was in Preston in 2002, and it's more scraggly than he likes, but I like it this way):

i can't tell in the photo because ... i'm not sure why, but does he have a 'stache? that's a van dyke isn't it?
i love clean shaven faces. and i love goatees. and soul patches. for some reason, i'm not big on the mustache though. i don't know why. maybe i'm a reject.
to recap:
clean shaven? YAY!
goatee? YAY!
soul patch? YAY!
van dyke? yay? heh
full beard? BOO!
you got a cutie though, either way :D
How does he look now without a goatee? Have you seen him without one in the past few years?
I'm not generally a fan of facial hair, but Ches does look good in a goatee (but not so much in a full beard like in that picture you showed me).
Okay, the story reminds me that I made Mike shave the full beard he had when I met him. (Totally not a hairy face kind of gal, myself.)
BUT, after we got married, I also made him grow sideburns. This was as the 80s were becoming the 90s, so that whole "hair cut over the ears" thing was getting to be passe. I still like Mike with sideburns, but time has moved on yet again....
But about Ches, which was the question after all, he looks good in a goatee, but also without. If he has to shave it off, it will be a big change for you. But I'm assuming the new job will be a good thing, so it will be totally worth it, right?
Good luck with the job!
I prefer clean-shaven. But I guess that's because whenever my husband gets enough time off that he doesn't have to shave he goes directly for as much beard as he can. I have sensitive skin, it's really not my favourite.
Hair, Shmair--I just pray he gets the job! I( I always liked Ches anyway--good thing, huh?)
Sometimes I like clean shaven becaus it gives my face a break. I also like the goatee. I like it to be switched up every once in a while. Either way just be well groomed.
I have always been drawn to the skater-type guys. So that means scruffy faces, long sideburns, maybe a goatee, but definitely no mustache. My hubby shaves on a daily basis for work. I love weekends when he doesn't shave till church on sunday and he is scruffy. But then there are the weeks when we used to go to Lake Powell and by the end of the week he'd look like a mountain man. That was COOL!
I would be curious as to how Ches looks NOW without a goatee. He had such a young face then. I like how he looks with the goatee but at the same time I am keeping my fingers crossed for the job!
It's funny, because everyone is saying exactly what I thought would be said. Hmmm.
While we were still at U of I Ches was trimming his goatee and messed up, so he shaved it all off so he could start over. He still had such a young face, but that was the first time I'd noticed he had gained weight (we have both gained about a gazillion pounds since we got married). The goatee really gives his face shape and definition.
What's a van dyke?
However, losing the goat for this job would be SOOOOO worth it.
Funny, I also have really sensitive skin (I mean, mega sensitive) but I love the facial hair. Last Christmas he grew it all out to a full-on beard and I actually liked it... not for a permanent thing, but it was cute there for a little bit. Very mountain man.
Oh, and a few years ago he grew out sideburns and I LOVE them!
I'm with you, Dana. That's the kind of guy I was always attracted to (and the look that Ches is totally not!), so I try to get Ches to dress that way and not shave all the time.
If Nathan wants to bug me he'll skip a day or two shaving. Man, that drives me crazy. Even Jaedin will say "Daddy, your face hurts me." :)
sheesh.
van dyke = goat + mustache.
goat = chin only.
soul patch (has another name i won't repeat 'cause mamas are reading heh) = little patch just below the bottom lip, but no mustache and no beard or chin action.
beard = beard. heh.
Thanks, FF. I had never heard of a Van Dyke before. Yes, that is what Ches has. I knew what the rest was, but can't remember what the other name for a soul patch is, so now it's driving me nuts, of course. If you are ever online when I am, maybe I can get it out of you, but I don't have your screen name (guess I'll have to call Dana again. Gosh!), and I'm afraid you might think me a stalker. Anywhoo...
Thanks for clearing it up. YRMFO.
well... you could always e-mail me at fourthfret@gmail.com and i'd exchange yahoo usernames with you there...
and don't worry. i can't be stalked. i hardly ever remember to sign on. LOL (dana knows this)
you know what would be fun? if someone created a private yahoo chat, and we could all meet up there like... all live and stuff. that would be cah-RAZY!
i'm totally in that pic!!! haha! whoot whoot! go phs marching band!! i loved band with your husband teaching it, he was the best!! he sounded pretty good when he was there!
